The European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, thanks to EU funding, and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council are jointly hosting a seminar on “European investment in China via Hong Kong” on 22 May 2012 to discuss the role of Hong Kong as a gateway for investment in China.

The bilateral trading relationship between the EU and China is significant and growing, totalling €428 billion in 2011. However, current investment flow still lags behind bilateral trade volumes, and this is an area with great untapped potential.
Featuring senior leaders from Invest Hong Kong, Ernst & Young, UBS and other leading organisations, this seminar will highlight the role of Hong Kong as a platform for investment in Mainland China given Hong Kong’s proximity to China and the presence of all relevant professional service providers. The seminar will also explore the main attributes of Hong Kong for purposes of investment in China, highlight aspects of due diligence particular to investing in China, whilst European investors will share their experiences on investing in China and highlight the advantages of using Hong Kong as a gateway.

|Seminar on “EUROPEAN INVESTMENT IN CHINA VIA HONG KONG”
||The European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, thanks to EU funding, and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council co-hosted a seminar on “European investment in China via Hong Kong” on 22 May 2012 to discuss the role of Hong Kong as a gateway for investment in China.
During the seminar, over 140 participants, learned from speakers, who had experiences in investing into China via Hong Kong as platform and sharing knowledge of using CEPA as a vehicle for investing into China. The guest speakers were from a variety of industry, thereby giving the audience a wide variety of knowledge and valuable experiences to take away from the fact-filled seminar.
The discussion was inaugurated with welcoming remarks by Ms. Margaret Fong, Deputy Executive Director, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, introducing the distinguished guest to the attendees consisting of academics, senior executives and leaders from Hong Kong’s business community.
The seminar comprised of 3 panel session which covered the topics of:
- Hong Kong as a platform to for investment in China.
- Particular areas of due diligence when investing in China.
- A view from European investors
The panel sessions were followed by an interactive discussion between the audience and the speakers which was moderated by Mr. Stefan Amarasinha, Head of Trade and Economic Section in the Office of the European Union to Hong Kong and Macao.
The event was finally closed by Mrs. Maria Castillo Fernandez, Head of Office of the European Union to Hong Kong and Macao who warmly thanked the guest speakers for sharing there views with the Hong Kong business communities.
