Mr. Reinout van Malenstein

IP Expert

Before joining the China IPR SME Helpdesk, Reinout has gained working experience as an IP lawyer in the Netherlands, working for a Magic Circle law firm and after that as the head of the China desk at a Dutch law firm. He also worked as a delegate of the EU China Co-Reach IPR project and as a researcher and lecturer of Utrecht University in The Netherlands.

David Allison

IP Lawyer
David Allison is Counsel within the China IP team of Bird&Bird and divides his time between Beijing and Hong Kong. With extensive experience in all major areas of intellectual property, including copyright, trade marks, patents, and registered designs, David has managed disputes dealing with infringement of trade marks, copyright as well as the misuse of confidential information and trade secrets. David’s particular areas of interest include contentious intellectual property disputes, the enforcement of intellectual property rights in both Hong Kong and mainland China, and the prosecution of trade mark portfolios in Hong Kong and the greater China region. He also advises clients on non-contentious matters, particularly relating to personal data privacy.David is qualified to practise law in the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the High Court of Australia and the High Court of Hong Kong.

Catherine Yip

Hong Kong Customs
Catherine Yip is the Group Head (Intellectual Property Investigation (Adm & Support)) of the Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau (IPIB) of Hong Kong Customs.  She is responsible for the investigation of IPR-related complaints, recordation clearance and intelligence exchange.  The IPIB is the sole authority in Hong Kong responsible for combating border, inland and online IPR crimes.  Previously, Catherine served as the Divisional Commander (Copyright Investigation) between 2008 and 2012.  Over the years, she has aggregated profound experience in the enforcement against organised, syndicate-level and cross-boundary IPR crimes.  Catherine also served in various posts of the Department, including intelligence analysis, management of various boundary control points, etc.  She holds a Master’s degree in Financial Management from the University of London.
