Initiated in 1997, the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (ECC) is a non-governmental business interest group. The ECC is a ‘Chamber of Chambers’ with its membership comprising 14 European Chambers based in Hong Kong and 1 in Macau. The European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong creates business opportunities via its network of Chambers, business associations and government agencies.

Assistant – Business Councils

ECC is looking for two interns to assist Business Councils in their research work and constructing position papers to the EU Commission.

The five Business Councils in ECC are working groups of specific industries (European Brand Protection, Financial Business Services, Information and Communication Technology, Environment and Energy and Automotive) with the aim to provide input for the formulation of EU bilateral policies with relevant interlocutors in Hong Kong and Macao authorities.

The intern will participate in the meetings of the council and assist the council members in the research and studies of EU-related business, trade and investment in Hong Kong. The daily tasks will include for example conducting interviews with stakeholders, summarizing information and writing reports. The councils consist of members of the leading companies in their field in Hong Kong. The intern is given a unique opportunity to work in co-operation with high-level business leaders. The intern will work closely with two or three councils.

A perfect intern is interested in international business and regulations around it as well as the industries the councils cover. The internship is a perfect opportunity for a student of law, business, technology or other relevant field. The intern has to have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and strong communication skills in English. Successful intern will have plenty of energy and initiative but also flexibility and open mind.

The duration for the unpaid internship should be 3-6 months and start as soon as possible. The interns will be located in our headquarters in the heart of Hong Kong Central.

ECC is also looking for an enthusiastic Finance/Accounting Intern to help creating and updating the ECC financial and other office processes, oversee that the processes are implemented and participate in some of the daily office activities.

The Finance/Accounting Intern will work closely with the chair of ECC and his team to build up and help ensure timely and accurate recording and reporting of financial information. The intern will be tightly involved in the process of renewing and improving the accounting and finance processes. The goal of this work is to develop efficient, streamlined and well-documented office activities for the ECC. Intern’s role will be assisting and even leading in all stages of the process implementation depending on his/her skills and experience.

Additional responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Intern may include assisting in development of regular accounting information, conducting other special analyses on an independent basis and other ad-hoc tasks. Depending on the interest and time availability, there is as well an opportunity to participate into ECC Financial Business Services Council activities. The council consists of members of the leading financial banks and other companies in their field in Hong Kong. The intern is given a unique opportunity to work in co-operation with high-level business leaders.

Preferred skills for the intern:

  • Familiar with standard accounting principles and company procedures
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Hands on and disciplined personality with ability to work independently
