The EuroCham Automotive Council enhances dialogue and strengthen co-operation between the HKSAR Government and the sector; driving economic growth and prosperity.
HONG KONG, 15 February 2015 – An Automotive Council under the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (EuroCham) was established with the aim of bringing together experts in the industry to provide advice and to make recommendations to the Hong Kong SAR Government with regards to topics on passenger and commercial vehicles, it was announced today by the EuroCham.
The EuroCham Automotive Council is chaired by Mr. Thorsten Jaede, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Hong Kong, consisting two working groups. The passenger car working group is speared by Mr. Andreas Binder, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Limited while on the commercial vehicle side, Mr. Nick Leach, Director of Vehicles Sales Support Asia of Scania is heading the working group. Mr. Gilles Cardonnel, Partner of Gide Loyrette Nouel is acting as legal counsel to the EuroCham Automotive Council.
4 priority areas of the EuroCham Automotive Council are to focus on:
European automotive brands in Hong Kong account for more than 50% of all licensed passenger cars. European brands are also represented strongly in heavier truck segments (>16 tonnes) as well as accounting for more than 50% of non-franchise buses and nearly 100% of franchise bus sales. European branded vehicles are clearly the major players in the sector.
The Council will work collaboratively with the Government, implementing roadmaps of its priority areas with ultimate aims of also enhancing road safety, resolving transportation issues and building a better living city; help making Hong Kong an even more attractive place for not only the automotive business but delivering economic growth and prosperity.
