Asia Carbon Footprint Network Conference 2015 “Carbon Footprint and Labelling Schemes: Recent Developments and the Way Forward” 26-28 October 2015, Hong Kong Grand Ballroom, Sheraton Hotel, TST, Hong Kong China

The Asia Carbon Footprint Network (ACFN), consisting of 14 member organisations in South-East Asia and North-East Asia, aims to bring key stakeholders together and promote carbon labelling implementation in the Asian region through disseminating good practices initiated by public and private sectors. Specifically, the ACFN focuses on the following areas:

• Information and knowledge exchange and collaborative research: topics include Product Category Rules (PCR), Uncertainty Analysis, Carbon Emission Factors and Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) Database, etc.;

• Capacity building: Carbon Footprint and Labelling Training Programme, National Policy Review and Assistance through Asia Carbon Footprint Seminar, and Online Information Platform;

• Global outreach: interaction with other international and national organisations on matters regarding the network programmes

Conference Objectives

In view of the ACFN activity areas, ESCAP in collaboration with the Green Council Hong Kong and Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI) organise the Conference on 26-28 October 2015 in Hong Kong. The Conference aims at (1) providing an overview of the carbon footprint and labelling schemes; (2) introducing carbon labelling schemes of the leading Asian countries; (3) learning recent progress in Hong Kong; (4) having the opportunity to learn the best practices in ecolabelling from European countries; and (5) providing a platform to discuss the way to implicate the lessons learned to the practices in carbon footprint and labelling.

Institute of European Studies of Macau (IEEM)

The Institute of European Studies of Macau was set up on the 23rd October, 1995, and started its activities on the 6th February, 1996.

Its is part of the Government strategy which aims at promoting the Internationalization of Macau and the training of senior staff, having in view the liaison with Europe.

IEEM establishment was subsequent to the existent co-operation with the European Union achieved through the global agreement (third generation) with Macau, in 1992, and through the set up of the European Documentation Centre and the Euro-info Centre. It also makes part of the Institutes and University Centres Web recognized by the European Union. Its existence emphasizes the role played by Macau as a platform between European culture and Chinese culture.

European Union Academic Programme Hong Kong

The European Union Academic Programme (EUAP) is a consortium of four universities in Hong Kong (Hong Kong Baptist University, The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University), co-financed by the European Commission.

It is designed to strengthen EU-Hong Kong relations through academic work and network-building with local, regional and European partners. It promotes academic excellence in European Union-related studies by strengthening existing programmes and research, developing new courses and multidisciplinary activities in tertiary institutions and secondary schools and a broad range of outreach activities in the wider HK community.

The EUAP is nurtured by sustainable networks in HK political circles, civil society, business and the mass media, for all of which it provides reliable information on any EU-related issue of interest. The EUAP cooperates closely with the EU Office to Hong Kong and Macao, the diplomatic representatives and chambers of commerce of all EU member states and a large number of institutions in Europe.
